ABSTRACT

Since the ISO9000 series of quality standards have been available for almost 12 years , the number of organisations seeking certification for ISO9000 continues to grow. Consequently, the standard was based around the need for paper documentation. However, the documented quality systems of certificated companies have to keep up with the fast information technology development such as the application of computer system to easily cope with large numbers of documents . We need to know what the existing computerization status of companies is ; what the feedback is from the existing ISO9000 certificated companies who have already installed software for their quality system ; and what kind of future software are required ; How the software provider can help . These and other issues are considered in this paper by focusing on the ISO9000 certificated companies in Hong Kong as the starting point. Some  results collected from related surveys are also presented along with a few comparisons , and the lessons which can be gained from the results.
